PHOTOGRAPHY
ALL ABOUT COMPOSITION, SNAPPING & EDITING
PHOTO ONE:

"Masjid Sultan / Sultan Mosque located at Muscat Street and North Bridge Road within the Kampong Glam district of Rochor Planning Area in Singapore." -wikipedia

This is one of the class assignment for photography module and the theme that we chose is Cultural Places in Singapore. We walked around from Kampung Glam, Little India to Chinatown just to snap good pictures.

So first stop is the mosque. It is considered as one of the most important mosques in Singapore. The prayer hall and domes highlight the mosque's star features. Thus, I took it from a worm's eye view (bottom tilted up) to show the sun, and the beautiful features clearly. This is when I managed to capture the bird which totally makes it look even more magnificent and majestic.

Post- production: Using dodge and burn tool to create the glowy effect and to emphasize on the features of the building.

PHOTO TWO:

"The Sri Mariamman Temple is Singapore's oldest Hindu temple. It is an agamic temple, built in the Dravidian style. Located at No. 244 South Bridge Road, in the downtown Chinatown district, the temple serves mainly South Indian Tamil Hindu Singaporeans in the city-state. Due to its architectural and historical significance, the temple has been gazetted a National Monument and is a major tourist attraction. Sri Mariamman Temple is managed by the Hindu Endowments Board, a statutory board under the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports." - wikipedia

The reason why I chose to snap it at that angle is because I want to focus on the different sculptures of Hindu deities, other figures and ornamental decorations. I find them interesting and beautiful.

Post- production: Colour correction

PHOTO THREE:

"Singapore's Chinatown is an ethnic neighbourhood featuring distinctly Chinese cultural elements and a historically concentrated ethnic Chinese population. Chinatown is located within the larger district of Outram." -wikipedia

The reason why I took this shot is because I'm attracted to the vibrant colours of the shophouses. It stands out from the rest.

Post- production: Vignette effect where the borders are darker.

Theme: LINES

When I thought of lines, the first thing comes to my mind is something cliche like buildings, wires, etc. So when I walked around, this escalator caught my eye. The horizontal and vertical lines leads the eye to one direction. So I decided to use the vertical lines instead and create somewhat like a journey to some place you never know, or acts like a pathway to some place. This shot is interesting to me as not many people noticed those lines, we go to school, to work, or even shopping, we don't even realised these smallest things around us.

Even in and on humans, there's lines. I love this shot. I was talking to my friend, observing lines around us when I notices her lips, her palm. The most beautiful decision I made is of course the sexy lips. Credits to Yow Poy Fang.

THEME: COLOURS & TEXTURE

Colours. We see them everywhere. Yes, so why do I decided to compose a shot like this?

Well, it is simply because I want to create a story behind this theme; colours. I was browsing through what interesting shots I can capture and I came across a pack of small, tiny coloured paper which have textured on it. To me, it is a very interesting object. Papers, when you see or get one, it is kinda rough textured, brown in colour or even white. But this one has a very vibrant colours. Thus, I tried to make use of this to compose a shot.

Post-production: Vignette effect, contrasts and brightness.

PORTRAITS

THEMES: INNOCENCE

I was doing my work, trying out cameras and all when my 2 year old niece came and sat beside me. She was playing with my stuff and all, so I got really pissed off with her. I didn't scold her because I know she just want someone to play with her. So I put my stuff aside, and direct her to be my model. It is tough to ask a 2 year old to do something cause at this age, they don't really understand that much. So, I thought of innocence. When she smiles, I quickly capture that moment real fast.

THEME: MYSTERIOUS

This shot was taken to portray a totally different side of someone. Yow Poy Fang, a friend of mine. I knew her for her bubbly, outgoing, and fun personality. So, I try to bring out another side of her; a serious, mysterious, and arrogant girl.

THEME: ANGER
ANGER. When you are angry, you show people by throwing tanrums. But what if you are the kind who keep it to yourselves? Here's a shot I took of a friend, whom I never seen her angry before in my life. Known her for nearly 3 years now but never I see her angry. She is known for her friendly, humourous, and joyful personality. So, I try to bring out the angry side of her. With the backdrop being all orange adds to the mood.
Post-production: Contrast and Brightness.
